Nearly 400 students, grades 6-12, are enrolled in the district band program, which is a consistent recipient of top OSSAAhonors including the Sweepstakes Award for receiving top ratings in marching band, concert band and sight-reading competition. One band student was recently honored with the State Superintendent Awards for Arts Excellence.The Bruin Band also has received the OSSAA Distinguished Academic Award for earning a cumulative academic GPA of 3.5 or higher. The program offers an award-winning state champion color guard and winter guard program that is open to all district students with an interest in dance and movement who meet age requirements and commitment expectations.
The percussion program is recognized throughout the country for regularly performing at the collegiate level, with BHS percussion students appearing alongside several of the top American percussion artists. The BHS Steel Pan Band was one of the first high school ensembles of its kind in Oklahoma and has been featured in London, England and twice at the OU Steel Pan Festival.
